Journal of Clinical Pharmacotherapy and Medicines Use (JCPMU) is an international, multidisciplinary scholarly journal dedicated to advancing the safe, effective, appropriate, and evidence-based use of medicines in clinical practice.

The journal provides a forum for research in clinical pharmacotherapy, medication safety, medicines use, drug utilization, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance, therapeutic outcomes, prescribing quality, real-world evidence, and medicines optimization.

JCPMU welcomes quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, and evidence-synthesis research from medicine, clinical pharmacy, clinical pharmacology, nursing, dentistry, pharmacoepidemiology, and related health disciplines where medicines, pharmacotherapy, medication safety, or therapeutic decision-making constitute a substantive part of the research.

The journal also considers carefully selected case reports and case series that provide meaningful educational contributions concerning pharmacotherapy, medication safety, treatment response, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, therapeutic failure, dose optimization, or complex medication-related decision-making.

JCPMU is published by European Science Research Press, Finland.

The journal is currently in its pre-launch development phase. Editorial appointments, identifier information, and submission-opening information will be published when formally established.

Mission

The mission of the Journal of Clinical Pharmacotherapy and Medicines Use is to publish rigorous, transparent, and clinically relevant scholarship that advances effective and safe pharmacotherapy, medication safety, appropriate prescribing and medicines use, therapeutic outcomes, pharmacoepidemiology, drug-utilization research, real-world evidence, and the implementation of evidence-based medication practices.

The journal seeks to connect researchers and healthcare professionals across disciplines while maintaining medicines and therapeutic decision-making as its central scientific focus.

provided that medicines, pharmacotherapy, medication safety, medicines use, or therapeutic decision-making are central to the work.

Normally Outside the Journal's Scope

JCPMU does not normally consider work where medicines or therapeutic decision-making are merely incidental.

This may include:

  • general clinical research unrelated to pharmacotherapy;
  • purely diagnostic studies;
  • surgical-technique research;
  • device-only research;
  • general nursing research unrelated to medicines;
  • general dental research without medication relevance;
  • general epidemiology without a substantive medicines component;
  • pharmacy-management or administrative research without meaningful clinical medicines-use relevance; and
  • basic or preclinical pharmacology without a sufficiently clear clinical or translational connection.

Readership

JCPMU serves an international and multidisciplinary readership including physicians and other clinicians, pharmacists and clinical pharmacists, clinical pharmacologists, nurses and advanced-practice clinicians, dentists and oral-health professionals involved in medication-related care, pharmacoepidemiologists, pharmacotherapy and medication-safety researchers, academics, educators, postgraduate researchers, and other healthcare professionals involved in prescribing, administering, monitoring, evaluating, or optimizing medicines.

Publication Language

The primary publication language of JCPMU is English.

Manuscripts should be written in clear academic English and must be sufficiently clear for scientific and editorial evaluation.

Publication Model

JCPMU follows a continuous publication model.

Articles that successfully complete the editorial, peer-review, and production processes may be published online when ready rather than waiting for completion of a traditional scheduled issue.

Open Access

The Journal of Clinical Pharmacotherapy and Medicines Use (JCPMU) is a fully open-access journal.

All published articles are made freely available online immediately upon publication without subscription or reader-access charges.

Articles published in JCPMU are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under CC BY 4.0, users may share and adapt the published work for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided appropriate credit is given to the author(s), a link to the licence is provided, and any changes are indicated.

Authors retain copyright in their published work and grant European Science Research Press a non-exclusive licence to publish the article, identify itself as the original publisher, distribute the Version of Record, and support appropriate preservation, indexing, and dissemination.

Any article-processing charge or other author fee, together with applicable waiver or discount arrangements, will be disclosed transparently before manuscript submissions are opened.

Editorial decisions are independent of authors' ability to pay.

Case Reports and Case Series

JCPMU considers case reports and case series where the principal educational contribution relates directly to medicines, pharmacotherapy, therapeutic decision-making, or medication safety.

Suitable submissions may include:

  • important adverse drug reactions;
  • clinically significant drug interactions;
  • unusual therapeutic responses;
  • therapeutic failure;
  • dose-selection or dose-optimization challenges;
  • complex polypharmacy;
  • pharmacogenomic considerations;
  • medication-related management challenges; and
  • clinically important medication-safety lessons.

Rarity of a diagnosis alone is not sufficient for publication.

Authors of case reports and case series will be required to comply with applicable patient-consent, confidentiality, ethics, and reporting requirements.

Editorial Independence

JCPMU is owned and published by European Science Research Press.

The Publisher is responsible for corporate administration, publishing infrastructure, operational support, financial management, and publication services.

Scholarly editorial decisions are the responsibility of the journal's duly appointed human editorial leadership.

The Publisher will not require the acceptance or rejection of an individual manuscript for commercial, financial, personal, or other non-scholarly reasons.

Publication fees, waivers, sponsorship, advertising, or other financial considerations will not determine whether a manuscript is accepted for publication.

Publication Ethics and Research Integrity

The Journal of Clinical Pharmacotherapy and Medicines Use (JCPMU) is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics, research integrity, transparency, and editorial independence.

Authorship and Contributorship

JCPMU applies the ICMJE authorship criteria as its working authorship standard.

Authorship should be based on:

  • substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data;
  • participation in drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
  • approval of the final version to be published; and
  • accountability for the accuracy and integrity of the work.

Individuals who contribute to a manuscript but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.

The journal may require authors to provide contributorship information as part of the submission process.

Detailed operational requirements will be incorporated into the Instructions for Authors before manuscript submissions are opened.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, editors, and members of the editorial team must disclose financial and non-financial relationships or activities that could reasonably be perceived to influence their work or judgment.

Editors and reviewers must recuse themselves where an actual or material perceived conflict prevents independent evaluation.

Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, identifiable human data, animals, or other ethically regulated research must comply with applicable ethical and legal requirements.

Authors may be required to provide information concerning:

  • ethics approval;
  • informed consent;
  • participant consent for publication;
  • clinical-trial registration;
  • research-protocol registration;
  • data handling;
  • funding; and
  • other relevant oversight.

Research Misconduct

JCPMU does not tolerate:

  • fabrication;
  • falsification;
  • plagiarism;
  • inappropriate manipulation of data or images;
  • duplicate or redundant publication;
  • undisclosed conflicts of interest;
  • inappropriate authorship practices; or
  • other serious breaches of research integrity.

Concerns about research or publication integrity will be assessed using appropriate evidence and procedures.

Where necessary, the journal may seek clarification from authors, institutions, research-integrity offices, funders, or other appropriate bodies.

Editorial staff will not make institutional or legal findings of misconduct where those determinations properly belong to an employer, research institution, regulator, or other competent authority.

Plagiarism and Duplicate Publication

Authors must submit original work and appropriately acknowledge and cite the work of others.

Manuscripts must not be simultaneously submitted to another journal.

Material that substantially duplicates previously published work must be transparently disclosed and must have appropriate scholarly and editorial justification.

Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

JCPMU is committed to correcting the scholarly record when necessary.

Where a published article contains an important error that does not invalidate the work, the journal may issue a correction.

Where findings are unreliable because of serious error or misconduct, retraction may be considered.

An expression of concern may be issued when substantial concerns exist but the available evidence is not yet sufficient for a final publication decision.

Corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, and related notices will be clearly linked to the affected publication and will explain the reason for the action as transparently as circumstances permit.

Peer-Review Integrity and Confidentiality

Manuscripts submitted to JCPMU are confidential scholarly materials.

Editors and reviewers must protect manuscript confidentiality and must not use unpublished information obtained through the peer-review process for personal or professional advantage.

Reviewer selection and editorial decisions must be based on relevant expertise, scholarly merit, integrity, and appropriate management of conflicts of interest.

The journal's detailed peer-review model will be published before manuscript submissions are opened.

Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models

Artificial intelligence systems, generative AI tools, and large language models cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

Human authors remain accountable for all submitted content, including content produced or revised with AI assistance.

Material use of generative AI or large language models should be disclosed where relevant, including the tool used and its purpose.

Authors remain responsible for verifying:

  • factual accuracy;
  • data and analyses;
  • citations and references;
  • attribution;
  • permissions; and
  • the integrity of all submitted material.

Reviewers and editors must not upload confidential manuscripts or unpublished submission material into external AI systems where confidentiality and data handling cannot be assured.

AI tools must not replace the independent scholarly judgment of human reviewers or editors.

Complaints and Appeals

Authors and other participants in the publication process will be able to raise concerns about editorial procedures, ethical issues, or publication decisions through a defined complaints and appeals process.

Scholarly appeals will be assessed independently of commercial considerations and according to the journal's applicable editorial procedures.

Detailed complaints and appeals procedures will be published before manuscript submissions are opened.
